Providing Snacks to Families & Contributing to a Second Chance

When the PowerDMS Give Back Committee (GBC) heard our local Ronald McDonald House was completely out of snack packs we jumped at the opportunity to help. The snack packs, placed in the family room on the pediatric oncology floor at the hospital, are essential to families who do not want to leave their sick child’s side.
The GBC collected snack donations from the PowerDMS team and then did some shopping of our own. We came together on a Friday afternoon, turned up some music, and assembled 136 individual snack packs – each containing granola bars, fruit chews, chips, cookies, nuts and other treats. We handwrote messages of encouragement for the families and placed one in each pack. It was a rewarding experience to deliver the completed packs to the house and see how much they were appreciated.
Early in August, the GBC met with Jennifer Sutch, Director of Development, Be The Match Foundation. Jennifer travelled from Minnesota to meet with companies in Florida to inform them about the important mission of their organization and specifically called on PowerDMS because of past interactions.
Be The Match connects patients with their donor match for a life-saving marrow or umbilical cord blood transplant. People can contribute to the cure as a member of the Be The Match Registry, financial contributor or volunteer. They also provide patients and their families one-on-one support, education and guidance before, during and after transplant.
After meeting with Jennifer, we were compelled to do something immediately and made a donation to their organization. We are also making arrangements to host a swab kit assembly at the PowerDMS offices soon.
