March 3 2011

On Feb. 17, 2011, our own Josh Brown and John Connell attended the 2011 Florida Companies to Watch Awards banquet, presented by GrowFL, in association with the Edward Lowe Foundation and funding support from The Governor’s Office of Tourism, Trade and Economic Development. The award program recognizes up-and-coming privately held businesses based on factors such as being able to cater successfully to a multitude of industries, playing an active role in the community, being responsible for a high percentage of employment growth within the state of Florida, and much more.

Representing PowerDMS as CEO and Director of Sales and Marketing, respectively, Josh and John graciously accepted one of 50 accolades from a pool of 109 finalists (whittled down from 319 total nominees). The banquet was held at the Rosen Shingle Creek Resort, near Universal Resort in Orlando, Fla.

“I think this is quite an honor,” said John. “It’s exciting to be recognized (as a growing technology business), but also to be part of the greater masses that are effecting change right now.”

“The future is bright,” added Josh. “We’re just seeing a huge vertical in compliance management as more and more companies look to replace their paper files…they’re looking to the internet saying ‘Is there a tool out there to help me manage my policies and accreditation processes in a more efficient way – somewhere to keep me organized so things don’t slip through the cracks?’”

The 50 companies making up the inaugural awards group represent a combined $419 million in annual revenue, 1,972 full-time employees, and 510 new jobs created, compared to 2009. From 2006 through 2010, these companies generated $1.4 billion in revenue and added 1,153 employees (both and out of Florida), meaning a 162% revenue increase in 141% job-number increase within that five-year period.

Other major program sponsors include Florida High Tech Corridor Council, the Florida Business Incubation Association, Fowler White Boggs, P.A. and the University of Central Florida.
