On May 19, IDS’ Give Back Committee for community outreach sponsored a trip to Busch Gardens in Tampa Bay, Fla. for the third-graders at Lovell Elementary School. Heath, Missy, and Jen from the IDS team volunteered as chaperones for the trip. Lovell Elementary School is in a lower income area of Apopka, Fla., so the IDS Gives Back Committee embraced the opportunity to help these students enhance their classroom knowledge with a fun, exciting day of first-hand learning about animal science.

The kids thrived on the interactive stimulus and listened intently as the tour guides explained the different habitats, behaviors, and characteristics of the animals. They particularly enjoyed learning about the alligators, hippos, gorillas, flamingos, bats, and giraffes (which have the same number of neck bones as humans!). IDS had as much fun sponsoring and chaperoning the trip as the students did with their day of learning outside the classroom!
Jen Juneau graduated in 2007 with a bachelor’s in technical communication and a minor in magazine journalism, as she enjoys both instructional and creative/editorial writing (and often at the same time). She has worked professionally on a variety of both types of content for almost five years, and appreciates the tools the English language gives her to create succinct-yet-engaging information. She believes effective communication is the only grease most conflict wheels are really missing.
