In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which it falls, as National Police Week. During this week, the U.S. recognizes the service and sacrifices of our law enforcement officials and pays tribute to those who lost their lives in the line of duty.
As tragic as any loss is, the 2013 line of duty death total of 105 officers is the lowest number since 1944 – a positive step forward for law enforcement everywhere. In fact, line of duty death totals have been on a decline for several years.
During this week, and always, the team at PowerDMS recognizes and says “thank you” to law officers and their families for the sacrifice made to protect our communities.
