This month, the Give Back Committee loaded up a grocery cart with all the makings of a delicious taco dinner and headed over to the Ronald McDonald House to share a meal with the courageous families rallying around their children receiving medical care at area hospitals.

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Florida provide parents and siblings with a “home-away-from-home” during this trying time in their lives. Clean towels, a soft blanket to snuggle up with, and comfort food all spell home for most of us. The RMH strives to make families as comfortable and at-home as possible, trying their best to provide a hot meal every night of the week. They lean on the community for donations to make that possible, as well as to maintain the total of 59 available rooms.

The Share-a-Meal program gives individuals, families, and businesses the opportunity to cook a meal in a RMH kitchen or in their own home and take it to enjoy with residents. The GBC prepared tacos, homemade salsa and guacamole and our CEO’s churro-inspired ice cream creation for dessert. Based on the number of residents getting seconds, the dinner was a big success and a lot of fun.

Cooking isn’t all we had cooking this month. The GBC also ran the Run for Africa 5K benefiting Children of the Nations (COTN). Funds raised at the event will help care for orphaned children in Africa. Jen, Josie, Nathan and Liz laced up and braved the July heat for the 3.2-mile run on Saturday, July 28. We’re making a difference—one mile at a time.
