Policy is the foundation of law enforcement, influencing how officers keep neighborhoods — and themselves — secure. Law enforcement is also scrutinizing laws governing the use of drones and body-worn cameras, encounters with transgender people, and other emerging concerns. According to the newly published 2017 State of Policy in Law Enforcement Report, finding trained officers to manage, evaluate, and approve these policies can be challenging due to slow growth in law enforcement jobs and hiring difficulties at some agencies.
